Coach or Couch?

November 11, 2009

I am a very positive person with lots of enthusiasm. Sometimes I still get moved by the negative influence of others. By writing about it, I am sharing these feelings and I can give them a place. Several wise people told me, why don’t you blog about it…

Too many coaches I have met lately are giving me a less than positive or impressive feeling. It seems most of them are into coaching because they want the ride the wave. Of course, I respect everyone and granted that each coach has his own programme or model to work with. So do I. What surprises me mostly is that the majority of the coaches I have met so far are unhappy themselves! So, how do they expect to help others with this negative state of mind?

On top of that, it seems that most of them are more into a therapy kind of business model where they keep the customer (are they really coachees?) coming back on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. They actually stall the process of improvement for their customers. So, the longer it takes to have them make a couple of steps, the more money they get. Is this really in the best interest of the customer? They don’t think about that. Frankly, they don’t care. To me they are more a “couch” than a “coach”. They want people on their couch rather than really help people towards a happy, fulfilling life! This is where I step up and say “NO”!

I became a life coach, because I am passionate about it, not for the money. I help people create the life of their dreams. This excites me so much that it becomes hard not to do it! People who haven’t seen me in a couple of years really see the difference. I am enjoying a happy life and feel really “lucky”. I went through a massive transformation process myself. It has changed my life. By coaching others towards their goals in life and helping them to get clarity on what they really want or the legacy they want to create, I feel energized and satisfied. It brings me a lot of happiness and it shows…

My point is, if you choose a coach, take some time to see who he/she really is. Are they happy? It’s like love. You can only give it to others if you have lots of it yourself… I am also thanking you for your commitment to really change your life. Working with a coach which is indeed a great step forward. And of course, there are lots of great coaches available for you. Even coaches who work with a “couch”-programme. The question is, what type of coach suits you best? And who will actually take you to your dreams? Choose wisely!

Life is too short

January 6, 2009

Life is too short,
eat the chocolate first!
- Bert Verdonck -

Yes, I know, a lot people hear me saying this regularly. Time to put it on my blog as well :-)

So, why did I come up with this quote? I enjoy life! As you probably know, my motto is “Enjoy every day!”. You must know that for most Belgians eating and drinking are very (very!) important. Most of you know that Belgium is chocolate’s heaven…And there is a strong link between having fun and eating chocolate, right :-)

Now, why would I share this with you? Well, every day can be our last one and I see too many people waiting too long before they have fun. They work too hard and keep postponing the fun part for another day or they will benefit from it, once they retire. They tend to forget that some never reach retirement. So, why are we so seriously all the time? Why don’t we play anymore and have fun like when we were kids… How enthusiastic were we with the smallest things in life? Did you forget that too? Well, I don’t and I insist on having more fun too!

On the 31st of December, I had a great conversation with a friend and fellow coach, who needed some clarity on his bigger purpose in life. I asked him : “Why are you here?” He told me all he wants to do, is play! Playing and having fun are his biggest drivers. He is so enthusiastic about playing that I am convinced he could inspire a lot of people to play more! So, one of his intentions for 2009 is…play more!

At the beginning of this new year, I think it is important to reflect on our lives again and look forward. Time to create a new set of wishes! And let’s be careful with what we wish for, because we might get it :-) So, what are your wishes?

Anyway, I’ll be an example and start by having fun today (and by eating a magical piece of Belgian chocolate :-) )!

Enjoy every day,

Live life fully…

October 4, 2008

“Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”
- Anthony Robbins -

I am a fan of Tony and this quote is one of my favourites! Some people are just too scared to do anything and end up having a mediocre life. Others just go for it and achieve everything they dream of. Why? Good question!

Most successful people start with setting goals. They take action towards their goals. They revise their goals along the way. Yes, that’s another difference : they change while enjoying their journey. Others don’t even start…So how do you expect to get to the finish without crossing the startline?:-)

Anyway, everyone has the right to make mistakes and the duty to learn from them. A lot of people only look at the negative part of their experiences and forget about the positive outcome as well!

What’s your choice? Acting normal or being weird? Having fun or weeping at home? A life worth living or worth forgetting about? Choose now and join in on the positive side of life and get a life! :-)

Enjoy every day,

BERTONIA

June 21, 2008

BertoniaToday we are lauching a new website!

Yes, Tonia and I have created a new website about our passion for travel, photography and life!

It is called BERTONIA :-)

Of course, it is full of pictures (check out the galleries!) and enjoy our extended galleries on Picasa as well! We’ve included pictures from Bali, Goa, Normandy, Zeeland and the Camino to Santiago.

Tonia wants to create more inspiring pictures and contribute to share her view on the world. By being a passionate photographer, you can already sense her ability to make you part of it. It feels sometimes like you are with her at that right moment the picture is taken. Excellent!

Now, dream away with BERTONIA and tell us your first impression…

Enjoy every day,
BERTONIA
Loving Life

May you live…

June 13, 2008

May you live all the days of your life.

- Jonathan Swift -

A nice wish by a great author (Gulliver’s Travels) to think about our daily lives. Why are so many of us just surviving and not really living their lives? Start realising that life’s too short and that you have to focus on your purpose in life. It may be over sooner than you think! What if today was your last day? How would you live it? What would you do? And why aren’t you living more days like this special “last day”?

I am grateful for every day and the magnificent opportunities and lessons that are coming my way. I am living my life! On top of that I am focusing on doing what I love to do and enjoying every bit of it!

So, what’s your excuse?

Enjoy every day,

Bert Verdonck

Only one success

June 9, 2008

There is only one success,
to be able to spend your life in your own way.

- Christopher Morley -

So, what are we waiting for? We need to focus on what it is what we want in life. What is our purpose? Once we know the What, we can start working on the How.

If you don’t know where you are going, it will be difficult to reach your destination!

So, do what I did : find your purpose and start living it!

Enjoy every day,

Entrepreneur Business School?

April 17, 2008

Roger Hamilton’s Entrepreneur Business School (EBS) is one of the best events I have ever attended! Next to creating a magical atmosphere with world-class mentors, I connected with likeminded entrepreneurs from around the globe. These strangers at first became intimate friends for life. They share my passion to contribute to make this world a better place. On top of that, we experienced lots of fun, reflected on intimate, critical moments and learned an incredible number of lessons for life! Everyone wins at EBS! It’s definitely the next step forward in my life…

This is how my summary or quote if you like about EBS in Bali would sound like in case someone would ask me :-)

I can recommend this event to every entrepreneur who is looking for an extra edge. It doesn’t matter if you are looking to grow your business or network, or need extra people, maybe a sounding board, target new countries or markets, it’s all there if you want to…

Next to the business stuff, this WOW-event made me grow as a person too! Magic happens at EBS! I’ll be back :-)

Roger, you ROCK!

Enjoy every day,
