Write a book

May 1, 2009

My latest challenge is to write a book in 3 months! Can it be done? Sure! Would you be interested in how to write a book in 3 months for yourself? I think so. That’s why I decided to openly communicate about this exciting project. My goal is to share with you this lifehack on writing and publishing a book, but not in the traditional way (1, 2, 3 years?), but by using several genius shortcuts to get it done in less time and with more results. Of course, if you wish, you can create an e-book as well :-)

Why? If I can do it, so can you. Too many people think too low of themselves. Everyone has a set of talents. Unfortunately, not everyone is using this set in the same way. Most people are not even using 10% of their potential. So was I. Knowing what I now know, I can easily achieve anything I want. And that is to learn and to share how to write a book in 3 months. I already wrote a blog on how to publish a book in 1 month, including a case study (in Dutch) last year on Lifehacking.nl. So, now its time to do the whole process from an initial idea to a published book.

What subject? There are so many interesting subjects to write about. Nevertheless, a choice has been made, but let me tell you the story behind it first. At our last mastermind I could not believe how narrow people are searching on the Internet. Guess what? Everyone is using Google. Guess what? 90% of the people I talk to ONLY use Google. Then I told them Google is ONLY about 3% of the Internet! GoogleThey all freaked out! :-) It was really funny to learn that there is a significant difference : Most people search for stuff on the Internet and sometimes are disappointed that they don’t find it. Others are overwhelmed by the amount of results, but it feels more like an avalanche where the real treasures are buried somewhere deep in the Google basement. It can take a while to find what you are looking for. Of course, most people indeed find most of their stuff most of the time, but I am talking about those precious treasures. Where and how to find them? Most people even search in all the wrong places…so how can you expect them to find it then?

Out of that brilliant conversation a natural question arouse: “Why don’t you write a book about it?” Everyone present at the meeting agreed they could use some help on finding stuff on the Internet and that they would buy such a book. So, it got me thinking… Intrigued by the reactions of the others and I decided to digg a little deaper.

Actually, most people never got a formal training or education on how to find stuff on the Internet. I realised that during that mastermind meeting. Nobody ever told them how easy it is to find stuff. Anywhere. And where all the goodies and secrets are kept. Really impressed by the amazing feedback from that meeting I started to ask around in my network too. And it seems that indeed about 90% agree they actually want (need?) extra insights in searching (and finding!) on the Internet.

Now, my question to you is:  Would you be interested in saving time to find everything you need? Or even find it on the Internet after all? Be it text, pictures, audio, video, pdf, ebooks,…whatever? Would you be interested in learning the shorcuts to impress your friends you could digg up amazing stuff no one else can find? Would you like to learn the best kept secret strategies that I use to find the hidden treasures on the Internet?

Let me know what topics you would like to see covered in this book? Or do you have specific tools you are using that might serve others? Or do you have amazing search-find stories to share? You might have a chance to be mentioned in my book :-)

Enjoy every day,

The Wealth Garden

March 25, 2009

Writing a book can be hard.  And finding a title or publisher is also a challenging job, but it is even harder if you do it all by yourself!

I decided to step up and write a book with several authors from around the world. JP and Matthew Newnham are the coordinators and the book is progressing very well. The launch will be in June, but I’ll post the exact date here later…

So, coming back to the title and cover, a decision has been made and here is the first draft: The Wealth Garden, Catching Butterflies without a Net.

The Wealth GardenMy chapter is now in proofreading and I am excited :-) On top of the creation of the book, we also participate in a marketing programme to gear up for becoming a bestseller on Amazon! Yes, that’s right, our ambition is to become a #1 bestseller in our category on Amazon. And I’ll need your help to get there :-)

By arriving at the #1 spot, I will be one of the first Belgian bestselling authors on Amazon (Yes, my friend Jan was probably the first!). Imagine what extra visibility that will create for me. On top of that I’ll be doing interviews in several publications.

And it gets even better! My chapter will be used as one of the previews of the book. This means that I will get an amazing interest from all over the world. Sure, this book is will be promoted on a global scale. Not only will it be a classical book on paper, but also a multimedia format will be available.

This is so exciting! :-)

Enjoy every day,

Clean Desk?

March 4, 2009

“If a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind, what is the significance of a clean desk?”

- Laurence J. Peter -

Do you have a messy desk? I do. Most people do. And if you’re like two out of three people, you feel guilty and ashamed about it, as well as about the lack of neatness and organization in your home, your office, your business, and everywhere else in your life. And other people probably give you grief about it. But are messiness and disorganization really such terrible things? If so, why do people who keep their desks very neat spend an average of 36 percent more time looking for things at work than people who keep a fairly messy desk? I’d rather spend that time on having fun. And yes, I can still find my way around in my mess :-)

A Perfect MessLast week, we had dinner at friend’s place and while she was in the kitchen I found a great book ( A Perfect Mess) in her library. It demonstrates that moderately messy systems use resources more efficiently, spur creativity, yield better solutions and are harder to break than neat ones. Yes!  Stop letting the neat-freaks push you around!  I found out why a certain amount of messiness and disorganization was already working in my favour, but I lacked evidence (sometimes) to proof it to others.

If you look at the money and time that goes into organizing, structuring and archiving stuff in companies, I sometimes wonder if all the efforts are really worth it? Do you really need all these applications, filing systems, neatly organised desks? I already told you about the Pile, don’t File-approach and A Perfect Mess gives more insights on how you can take even better advantage of the benefits of disorder. Don’t take my word for it, read the book, get convinced and keep a fairly messy desk, like mine :-)

Enjoy your mess,

Paulo Coelho Rocks!

December 3, 2008

Paulo CoelhoPaulo Coelho is one of my favourite writers! I frequently inspire others by giving his books away to friends and clients. If you don’t know who Paulo Coelho is, you probably have no clue how he sold 100 million books in 1 year. Wow!

Why am I telling you this? Well, Paulo Coelho is sharing his books online for free! Paulo wants his readers to “try his books for free”, so you can download his ebooks freely! How cool is that?

Next to “the Alchemist”, “11 minutes” and “the Zahir”, all his books are free downloadable :-)

This is the best link to start downloading his books. Oh, by the way his books are available in English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian, Castellano and many more!

“The ultimate goal of a writer is to be read. Money comes later.”, according to Paulo. “Most people still prefer to read a real book however, (pirated) ebooks are more often used to preview.” so he states.

A big thank you from a big fan! Paulo Coelho, you ROCK :-)

So, what are you waiting for? Start downloading now! And if you want to speed up the process, check out my lifehack on learning how to read at least 3 times faster in just 15 minutes!

Who reads a book entirely?

February 12, 2008

Ok, I am one of those booklovers who reads a book from start to finish. Apparently, not like everyone…

Recently, I heard this (true) story about an author who wrote a book (ok, nothing out of the ordinary yet).

After selling a couple of thousands, on a given day he receives a message from one of his readers that in his copy page 147 was missing and if another copy could be send…So, he gets to his stock and takes the first book, looks at page 147 and yes, you guessed it already : the page is missing here too!

Next, he goes to his previous version (I don’t recall if this was the third or second reprint, but in fact it doesn’t matter!) and looks for page 147. Guess what : it’s NOT there!

Wow, he looks in his archive for a copy of his first version and of course : no page 147 ;-)

So, actually page 147 (sure, also page 148 ;-) ) never existed…Now, everyone makes mistakes, I am the first one to admin, but what strikes me is that nobody ever saw it (or took the effort to tell the author about it)!

I mean if you read a book and 2 pages are missing…duh!?!

This brings me to the conclusion that not everyone reads the whole book, right?

In fact, I tested this with some friends and most of them confessed, they only read the intro’s, the first chapter (maybe 2, max3) and the last one, jumping to conclusions.

Wow, I am impressed…

What about you? Do you read every book entirely?

Now, would it be a great idea to write a book with 12 chapters and publish it like any other book, but with just the first 2 chapters (first and last ones) actually printed??? How’s that for creative writing? Who’s willing to be my publisher? ;-)

Enjoy every day,
